Dr Margaret Mellon / Union of Concerned Scientists: KEEP ANTIBIOTICS WORKING campaign
An expert on antibiotic resistance, Dr Mellon will address her work on the KEEP ANTIBIOTICS WORKING campaign, including discussion of the effects of antibiotics in the US meat, dairy and poultry supplies. Writes Dr Mellon: “Please contact members of Congress today and tell them to put an end to the dangerous overuse of important human antibiotics in the feed and water of animals that are not sick.” Dr. Mellon testified before the House Committee on Rules of the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, H.R. 1549, in July of 2009, and is an outspoken advocate of food safety. She is the co-author of The Ecological Risks of Engineered Crops, with Jane Rissler.
