When the FDA recently publicized letters to 17 food companies accusing them of “masking undesirable ingredients” in their products, it may have given the public a false sense of security that the agency is actually looking after consumers' best interest. However, when looking at the meat and dairy industries, you will find pithy marketing slogans instead of such similar warnings on their dubious practices. What is particularly disturbing is the fact that all US meat and a large percentage of our dairy products have been banned worldwide yet our government still lets us feed it to our children. I'm sick of the lip service that goes into finding a “cure” for cancer, meanwhile the mounting studies are ignored, studies that show high correlations or conclusive correlations between ingredients routinely used in America's meat and food supplies (example, nitrites), and this deadly disease. The so-called “canary in the coalmine” may be riddled with carcinoma, but the FDA is still muffling his alarming last “tweet”. Like the economic crisis, it seems that those in power wait until it's too late and then look back and point blame or shake their heads and say they just didn’t know the whole story while they were the ones on watch duty. It’s getting harder and harder to imagine living in a land where the appointed governors prevent problems instead of “treating” the symptoms and consequences.

In the U.S., an estimated 20 percent or more of our milk is genetically engineered using rBGH (recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone) which studies have shown is directly linked to increased risks of breast, colon and prostate cancer. The Cancer Prevention Coalition endorsed by five leading national experts petitioned the FDA to label this genetically modified milk with explicit cancer warnings like cigarettes-- yet still no response. Based on these concerns the United Nations Food Safety Agency, representing 101 reasonable nations worldwide, voted unanimously not to endorse rBGH milk, which resulted in an international ban on American milk. Why give your kids something that 101 nations don't think is safe enough for their people?

Similarly, in the US, 100 days before slaughter, cattle is frequently injected with natural or synthetic sex hormones to increase their meaty yield. Does the Meat Fairy come and magically make these additional genetically engineered compounds, hormones, and chemicals disappear before it's sold to your grocery store? Many studies and experts have shown that our meat poses increased risks of hormonal cancers, which have increased alarmingly since 1975: prostate by 60 percent, testicular cancers by 60 percent, and breast by 23 percent! US meat has never been monitored for sex hormone levels by the USDA or FDA and is banned worldwide! So, if you like boobs and balls (at least your own), it's time to make our change-makers change!
